Katrina
I don’t think an introduction to hurricane Katrina is necessary. This story I’m writing about the storm is multifaceted. It’s not just about the hurricane that hit the city of New Orleans on August 29, 2005 – it’s a personal account of my friend and me, and our involvement in the aftermath that followed. More than that, it’s a tribute to that friend, Brad Mercer.

Brad and I were privileged to participate in recovery efforts in the flooding that occurred after the storm hit. He wrote some amazing pieces on his blog in the days after, in a style that I could never hope to emulate. Every time I revisit what he wrote, I’m moved by his words. I decided to preserve those writings on my own blog. This is my tribute to him.
